Badminton racket is the most important equipment. You should choose badminton racket based on your playing skills and ability that matches. Here are some of the points to remember when choosing a perfect and suitable racket for yourself.

Based On Weight Of The Racket

A good and ideal badminton racket usually weighs around 80g to 100g. Now the weight of the racket is usually denoted by "U". Here you know how they are divided.
  • 4U: 80-84g
  • 3U: 85-89g
  • 2U: 90-94g
  • 1U: 95-100g

Lightweight rackets are generally preferred for the beginners as it is easy to learn and control. They should weigh between 85-89 gram(3U).
Lightweight rackets are used for quick serves and turn to turn to different strokes easily. They allow for quick stroking speeds and recovery. Lightweight rackets also helpful for your arms and shoulders. As they prevents from pain and injuries to your arms.


Based On Balance Point

Apart from the weight of the racket they can also be categorised on the basis that which part of the racket is heavier than the other side. There are three types of rackets based on the balance point of the racket. The racket can be checked easily by just placing your finger slightly below the head of the racket and see where the racket tilts. 

1.Head Heavy Balance

'Head heavy' rackets feel heavier on the racket head and yield more power in your smashes. This type of racket is good for those players who prefer to play at the back of the badminton court. This racket is also for those who have good technique of smashing during the game. This racket is definitely useful for rallies as this produces a  lengthy clears so it's definitely a weapon for those whose game revolves around long exchanges. 


2.Head Light Balance

'Head light' rackets feel lighter on the hand and more manoeuvrable than head heavy rackets.


3.Even Balance

As reading its name, anyone could understand that both the side have equal weight. If you are just beginner then this racket would be a better choice for you because now you don't know which racket the head heavy or head light racket is best suited for you. Now when you started the game and are understanding the tricks then you can shift to head heavy racket and head light racket.  Once you establish your style of play then you shift to the other two rackets to improve your overall game.

Note: Adding a string to the racket increases the weight of the head of the racket and adding a grip increases the weight towards the handle of the racket.

Based On Hand Grip

There are two types of badminton grips. These are towel grips and synthetic grips.

1. Towel Grip  

Towel grips have some advantage and disadvantage like it is soft and are good sweat absorber compared to synthetic grips. But however, this grips are likely to produce germs and bacteria and may give infections. Therefore, these grips have to be replaced frequently compared to the other one. 

2. Synthetic Grip

On the other hand, synthetic grips are less messy than the towel grip and does not produce many germs compared to towel grips and even synthetic grips does not require to change frequently. Also, this makes it less comfortable because of its less sweat absorbing ability.
